During the NBA offseason, no prominent team in the league looked more like a mess with a disaster of a season ahead than the Philadelphia 76ers, as it seemed as though executive Daryl Morey had messed up the James Harden situation and jeopardized the team’s short-term future as a result.

Fast forward to today, and Morey is sitting pretty in Philadelphia, as he was able to secure his long-term future with the team with a contract extension that will keep him with the 76ers through the 2027-28 NBA season.

After an offseason filled with drama due to his actions or failed promise to Harden, it seemed like the future was bleak, to say the least, for the veteran front office executive.

Fortunately for Morey, the 76ers brass see the value of keeping him around for at least a few more years, and he is not taking the situation for granted as this current season is the top priority moving forward, via NBC Sports Philadelphia.

“We don’t think this year can be taken for granted.”

Following his contract extension, Daryl Morey took to the podium to discuss why he thinks the #76ers can win it all this year, and why he’ll do what he can to make a move as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/I22Fr9huId

Even though the 76ers are firing on all cylinders right now with Joel Embiid having another MVP-caliber season and Tyrese Maxey quickly turning into a superstar in this league, Morey isn’t planning to sit on his hands, as it seems the team could make a move before the NBA trade deadline.

At this point, it is uncertain what Morey and company may be planning to do, but it definitely makes things interesting in Philadelphia, as it appears the storied franchise is going all in with the team’s sights set on winning a championship sooner rather than later.
