After superstar Tom Brady decided to retire from the NFL during the offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the tall task of replacing arguably the greatest quarterback in league history, with extremely limited options in NFL free agency.
Even though there were limited options, and none of them were all that great, the Buccaneers decided to take a chance on former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, who had become a journeyman after his stint with the Cleveland Browns.
Mayfield’s time with the Carolina Panthers may have been forgettable, to say the least, but he was able to resurrect his career of sorts with the Los Angeles Rams while filling in for Matthew Stafford.
That short stint with the Rams was enough to convince the Buccaneers brass that he’d be a good stopgap between Brady and a rookie they might be able to bring in down the road.
So far, Mayfield hasn’t done a bad a job in Tampa Bay, as he’s kept the team competitive while stepping up his game with the Buccaneers currently in the mix to win the NFC South division title and punch their ticket to the NFL playoffs.
On Sunday, Mayfield put on a show at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers with arguably his best performance of the season via the NFL’s Twitter account.

The Buccaneers have now won three straight games and are sitting atop the division standings with a record of 7-7, as it seems the division title might come down to the showdown with the Saints on New Year’s Eve.
Currently, Tampa Bay is the better team compared to New Orleans, and that might show during this game in two weeks with a trip to the playoffs potentially on the line.
