With only three regular-season games left in the 2023 campaign, there’s been a lot of talk about the NFL MVP award and which player is the most deserving of the award that usually goes to a player at the quarterback position.
Even though a handful of quarterbacks have played some top-level football this season, like Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, this year a running back could walk away with the regular-season award once it is all said and done.
One player who has gotten a lot of attention as of late as a legitimate MVP candidate is 49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, who has put on a show in the Bay Area all season long.
After a three-touchdown performance against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, McCaffrey has topped his career-best for touchdowns in a season with 20, as he’s rushed for 13 scores and caught seven touchdown passes so far.
Incredibly enough, McCaffrey isn’t alone in the 20-touchdown department this season, as Raheem Mostert of the Miami Dolphins has also reached that total, with 18 rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns.
Along with having remarkable seasons for the 49ers and Dolphins, these two players have equaled or scored more touchdowns than four NFL teams after Week 15, according to PFF.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have broken even with Mostert and McCaffrey with 20 touchdowns, but the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, and New York Jets have all scored much less during the 2023 NFL season, which is wild.
With three games left to be played, McCaffrey and Mostert will likely put a few more touchdowns on the board, further adding to their remarkable performances this season.
