The New York Yankees have already made one significant move this offseason.

That was acquiring All-Star outfielder Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.

But, with how much the Yankees usually spend in free agency, you can bet the Soto move was just the first of many to come.

As of now, the Yankees have not made any substantial free-agent signings.

But, they did make an interesting move in the minor league free-agent market.

According to the Yankees, they have claimed former top prospect Jeter Downs off waivers from the Washington Nationals.

Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Jeter Downs off waivers from the Washington Nationals.

Downs was most famously a part of the package sent back to the Boston Red Sox in the Mookie Betts trade.

But, he has yet to pan out in his MLB career.

Downs has played in 20 major league games in his career.

In those games, he has batted .182 with 22 strikeouts and five walks.

On the positive side, Downs is only 25 years old.

There is still plenty of time for him to turn his career around.

The Yankees just hope they can be the ones to help him reach his full potential.

It seems most likely that Downs will start the 2024 season in the minor leagues.

The Yankees have done a good job in the past developing their players.

It will be interesting to see if Downs can be the next Yankee success story.

This may not be seen as a move that excites many Yankees fans.

But, this is only the first of what should be many to come.
