Winning back-to-back MVP awards is very hard but several players have done it throughout NBA history.

Will Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers be the next to achieve such an impressive feat?

There is still plenty of season left to play but Yahoo Sports is reporting that BetMGM has Embiid as the favorite to win his second MVP trophy.

He had odds of +350 on Wednesday morning, which moved up to +275 that evening.

On Thursday morning he had +175 odds to be named the league’s most valuable player.

What led to the sudden increase in Embiid’s chances?

His Wednesday night showing against the Minnesota Timberwolves was an astonishing feat and a reminder of just how special he is.

Embiid had his second 50-point game of the season with 51 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists on 68% from the field and 17-of-18 from the free throw line.

Once again, Embiid has been the heart and soul of his team, the centerpiece of their success, and the most dominant star on both ends of the court.

The competition for MVP will continue to intensify as the season goes on and Embiid’s victory isn’t guaranteed.

There are numerous players, such as Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and others who will fight hard to claim the top prize.

And of course, there is a chance that Embiid doesn’t keep up at this pace and minimizes his chances.

However, most people admit that he has a lead on everyone else right now.

Embiid would be happy to be MVP again but he wants to be a champion more than that.

He has one singular goal this season: winning the title.

Can he be MVP as well as Finals MVP?
