The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had an important decision ahead of the 2023 season.

With Tom Brady officially retired, they had to look elsewhere at the quarterback position, a difficult pill to swallow.

How could they find an adequate replacement for a quarterback that many consider the best in NFL history?

In their efforts to replace Brady, the Buccaneers seemed to be starting a competition between Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield.

While it seemed to be a hard-fought competition at first, it quickly became apparent that Mayfield was the man for this team.

Chris Godwin recently appeared on “Good Morning Football,” discussing Mayfield’s impact on the locker room.

“It didn’t take much for him to win us over,” Godwin said.

Godwin has been a primary receiver on the Buccaneers for the past several years.

He has worked with several quarterbacks to this point, knowing what it takes to gain control of a locker room and get the respect of your teammates.

Godwin made it seem that Mayfield acclimated well to this team, a big reason for their unexpected success.

In Godwin’s eyes, Mayfield was on a mission to improve the Buccaneers and their outlook for the season.

He had a clear vision of what he wanted to do, and when that was in his sights, nothing could stop him.

The Buccaneers are currently in first place in the NFC South, and with the New Orleans Saints’ recent loss, they can further distance themselves with a win this weekend.

Can Mayfield continue his surprising run with this team?
