Not so long ago, some scouts thought Jarrett Stidham could follow Tom Brady’s footsteps and become the new late-round pick to thrive at quarterback for the New England Patriots.
He drew some rave reviews during his days with Auburn, and while he was still raw, the talent and intangibles were clearly there.
Unsurprisingly, the Patriots failed to develop him, just like they’ve failed to develop almost every offensive player in a decade, and he kind of stood there in the shadows.
Josh McDaniels still had faith in him and took him with him to the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2022 campaign.
There, he had a chance to prove his worth, starting in the final game of the season and torching the San Francisco 49ers’ elite defense for 365 yards, three touchdowns, two picks, and a 108.1 QBR while completing over 67% of his passes.
That was more than enough for the Denver Broncos to give him a chance and sign him as Russell Wilson’s backup.
So, now that he’s set to make his first start in Denver, the former Tiger claims he’s just going to go out there and do what he needs to do without getting fancy:
“I don’t think I need to overthink it,” Stidham said, via the team. “Just do what I’m coached to do. We have a great staff and a great group of guys around me. I’m just going to do my job to the best of my ability, do the certain things that I need to do on each and every play and move the ball down the field and hopefully score a lot of points and get a win.”

Stidham will take the reins of an offense that has looked dead in the water after a mid-season surge.
Wilson has drawn plenty of criticism and isn’t likely to be a part of the team going forward, so this will give him a perfect opportunity to showcase his skills and prove that he belongs in the league.
The Broncos will have just two games to assess their new QB1, but that might just be enough to get the job.
