The New York Knicks are looking to build on their strong season last year and so far are doing a good job of that.

During the 2023-24 season, the Knicks are currently 17-14 and in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

A lot of their wins have come because of Jalen Brunson who has a strong case to make his first All-Star team because he’s averaging 26 points, 5.9 assists and 4 rebounds a game.

Brunson’s long been an underrated point guard, but he’s getting a chance to truly blossom in New York.

Despite his size, Brunson is a physical guard who likes to use his body to initiate contact to either finish or draw fouls.

There have been numerous instances this season where Brunson looked like he deserved a call when driving into the paint and head coach Tom Thibodeau expressed his displeasure with the lack of calls via Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

“Those are fouls. I’m sick and tired of it,” Thibodeau said.

Tom Thibodeau walked out of his postgame press conference after voicing his frustration about non calls on Jalen Brunson’s drives. The coach said he’s been sending examples to the league.

It’s not uncommon for teams to complain to the league office about non-calls, and in this case, Thibodeau and his staff are building a credible case for Brunson to go to the line more.

In the modern NBA, officials seem to call shooting fouls much more frequently so it’s understandable why Thibodeau would be upset about Brunson’s refereed.

Despite the lack of calls some nights, Brunson continues to play his game and the Knicks are much better off for it as it sets the tone.

It’ll be interesting to see if Thibodeau’s lobbying does any good for Brunson in the coming weeks.
