The New Year’s fireworks got off to an early start in the NBA when the New York Knicks swung a trade for O.G. Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors.

The Knicks sent out Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, and a 2024 second-round pick for Precious Achiuwa, Malachi Flynn, and Anunoby.

Anunoby had been the center of trade talks for the better part of a year now, and it seems the Raptors are finally keen on rebuilding their roster around budding star Scottie Barnes.

For New York, Anunoby gives them arguably the best perimeter defender in the league and another player who can score and hunt his own shots.

It’s an aggressive move for the Knicks who look to be all-in on their current roster, though they still feel a piece or two away from truly competing in the Eastern Conference.

However, it appears they could be looking to make another move soon via Ian Begley of SNY.

“I don’t think they’re done,” Begley said.

While a trade for Anunoby by itself is a good move, New York still has all their future first-round picks and could dangle those for another star-level player.

Donovan Mitchell has been the most frequently mentioned player linked to the Knicks, though the team could go in a variety of other directions come the trade deadline.

With Mitchell Robinson on the shelf, New York could use another big man to shore up their center rotation.

They could also use another 3-and-D wing to flank Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle with, so it’ll be interesting to see how aggressive they are in the coming months.
