The New York Knicks headed into the 2023-24 NBA season with high hopes of finally being able to contend for a title, with stars Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle leading the way for the storied franchise.

Unfortunately, even though the Knicks are a talented team with a lot of promise, New York is still trying to compete with the league’s elite in the Eastern Conference and isn’t having much luck, with the team barely hovering over .500 at 18-15.

As the team continues to try to catch up to Eastern Conference heavyweights like the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers, Tom Thibodeau’s squad recently made a trade that no one saw coming, with the team parting ways with R.J. Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and a second-round pick in exchange for OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn.

Even though the Knicks have been praised for the move, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas believes it is time for the Knicks to land a real superstar, mentioning Jalen Green and Anthony Edwards as ideal targets on his podcast Gil’s Arena via NBA Central.

“I want a star. Period.  I want a Jalen Green….(Anthony)Edwards.  I want a superstar name first and then I’m gonna build my team,” Arenas said.

First of all, mentioning Green as a superstar is a bit of a stretch, to say the least.

The Houston Rockets may be a team on the rise with a lot of promising young talent, but Green is far from a superstar, which kind of kills Arenas’ argument altogether.

However, Edwards is undoubtedly a superstar on the rise in the NBA and the perfect player to build around in the league today.

Unfortunately for New York, it’s highly unlikely the Minnesota Timberwolves will look to move Edwards anytime soon, as he recently signed a lucrative long-term deal and currently has the team sitting atop the Western Conference standings with a record of 24-8.
