Despite another tough loss for his San Antonio Spurs, rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama had a very good game on Thursday night.
However, that came just hours after he lost out on Rookie of the Month to Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren.
Following the game, Wembanyama was asked about this by Hector Ledesma, via ClutchPoints.
He responded that the loss of Rookie of the Month didn’t have an impact on his game.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to get what I deserve…Every game is a statement now on,” the Spurs star said.

While Wembanyama is right, the truth is that every single game of the season so far has been a “statement.”
Even before he joined the league, all eyes were on Wembanyama and he has been closely watched by fans across the NBA.
So far this year, he is averaging 19.2 points and 10.1 rebounds, as well as a league-high 3.2 blocks.
Those are all strong numbers but he has more competition for Rookie of the Year than people expected.
Holmgren is just one of the few young stars who could earn that honor, although a few months ago Wembanyama was seen as the clear favorite to claim it.
However, Wembanyama isn’t focused on that and is simply dedicated to his team and the game.
On Thursday night, he scored 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocks but his Spurs still fell short to the Milwaukee Bucks and lost 125-121.
The Spurs kept things closer than many people expected and created a very fun game for fans.
Their record is 5-29 right now but they are still garnering a ton of attention despite that, mostly because of Wembanyama.
He might not be Rookie of the Month but he is still definitely in the running for Rookie of the Year and is also one of the most exciting young players in the NBA.
