The Jacksonville Jaguars came into the 2023 season with high expectations.
They were coming off Trevor Lawrence’s first playoff victory in 2022 and felt good about their chances to win the division again.
While the Jaguars did look promising at times, they had several injuries up and down the roster, ultimately leaving them out of the playoffs on the season’s final day.
Nick Wright described the Jaguars’ season as “disastrous” in a recent “First Things First” segment on FS1.
“Two things are true: 1. like many teams this year, the Jags season was done in by injury to their QB. 2. The Prince needed to be better. He didn’t take the leap. It was a disastrous year.”

Wright pointed to Lawrence’s performance as a significant reason for the team’s downfall.
He looked at Lawrence’s numbers before and after his injury, which showed a stark change in production as the season went on.
For a team that was 8-3 at one point in the season, to end the year at 9-8 was a pretty big disappointment, as Wright called out.
Having a healthy quarterback is paramount in the NFL, and it was clear that Lawrence wasn’t the same player after his injury.
Wright and his team are interested in seeing what the Jaguars will look like in 2024, especially if Lawrence is healthy for the entire season.
They might have entered 2023 as the best team in the division, but the tides have quickly changed in that regard.
The Houston Texans made the playoffs in C.J. Stroud’s rookie season, pulling this team out of the muck they had found themselves in for several seasons.
Despite Anthony Richardson falling due to injury, the Indianapolis Colts also fought for the entire year, and they also could be on the upswing next season.
If the Jaguars aren’t careful and do not take steps to improve their roster, they could find themselves as the second or third-best team in the division next year.
