Patrick Mahomes has been considered the best quarterback, if not the best player, in the NFL for some time now, but this season has been a different story.
He and his Kansas City Chiefs have struggled all season long to continue their mastery of the AFC, as they don’t have the reliable wide receiver production they likely used to take for granted.
With an 11-6 record, they will have to play a Wild Card playoff contest this weekend against the Miami Dolphins, who finished second in points and first in total yards.
But per Matt McMullen, Mahomes says he’s starting with a clean slate, especially knowing that everything is now on the line.
“Everything you’ve worked for all season long is on the line.”

The two-time MVP has a history of working his magic during the playoffs and almost making something out of nothing, but his ability to turn straw into gold will sorely be tested this time around.
Kansas City may have an emerging stud at wide receiver in rookie Rashee Rice, who finished the regular season with 938 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 catches, but all of their wideouts have had a high number of dropped passes this year.
Dropped passes have especially been a problem in crunch time, and it has resulted in a high number of one-score losses.
This entire situation has put lots of pressure on star tight end Travis Kelce, and perhaps as a result, his numbers — 984 yards and five touchdowns — are down from previous years.
The good news for the Chiefs is that to some extent, the AFC is wide open, and if they get a few breaks, they could be headed to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in the last five years.
