On Tuesday night, it was reported that the Miami Heat signed head coach Erik Spoelstra to an eight-year extension that is worth more than $120 million.

That’s the highest amount of money ever committed to an NBA coach and also any North American coach of any sport.

Many people came out to celebrate Spoelstra after the big news, including former NBA coach George Karl.

On Twitter, Karl said, “I’m proud of the @MiamiHEAT organization re the contract extension of Coach Spo and happy that Pat Riley supports coaches in a progressive way!”

During his career, Karl coached several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Seattle SuperSonics, Milwaukee Bucks, and Denver Nuggets.

He also was named Coach of the Year in 2013 and Coach of the Month multiple times.

As for Spoelstra, he has been leading the Heat since 2008 and has propelled the team to impressive levels of success, including back-to-back championships.

In total, he has taken the Heat to the Finals six times.

No matter who is on the roster, what injuries they are battling, or the opponents they are playing against, Spoelstra has consistently found a way to drive his team hard and help them win again and again.

They have overcome the odds multiple times, including last season when they went all the way to the NBA Finals after being written off by many.

The team is currently fifth in the East with a 21-15 record and has again been performing better than some expected.

The Heat clearly believe that this is money well spent and they are very happy to keep doing business with Spoelstra and his special brand of coaching.
