A few years ago, the Los Angeles Rams decided to make a bold move by trading former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions in exchange for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

In retrospect, the blockbuster trade between the two teams has worked out for both franchises, with the Rams going on to win the Super Bowl title immediately after acquiring Stafford, while Detroit eventually turned out to be the perfect place for Goff as he’s gotten back to a Pro-Bowl-caliber form and has helped turn things around for the Lions.

The Lions have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season, with Detroit having a potent offense led by Goff and a formidable defense that has been able to maintain leads for this up-and-coming team.

Ironically enough, the Lions and Rams will go head-to-head during Wild Card Weekend, with Detroit playing host to Stafford and company on Sunday at Ford Field.

Before the Rams traded Goff to the Lions, there was some tension between head coach Sean McVay and the former top pick, which led to the deal, and the head coach in Los Angeles is now apologetic about how things went down, according to Bridget Condon of NFL Network.

Sean McVay says he has more appreciation for Jared Goff as time has gone on “the thing I’ll never run away from are mistakes that I’ve made…”

“Could it have been handled better on my end? Absolutely…he deserved better than the way it all went down. I’ll acknowledge that.”

Heading into this playoff showdown in Detroit, both quarterbacks have some added motivation to get a playoff win over their former teams, which will make for an entertaining football game.

As of right now, the Lions are the favorites to come out on top in this postseason matchup, with home-field advantage giving Detroit an edge.
