During the 2023 regular season, the Miami Dolphins were one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NFL, thanks mostly to their explosive offense.
The Dolphins finished the 2023 regular season third in the league in points scored per offensive drive, first in total offensive yards, first in passing yards per game, and sixth in rushing yards per matchup.
However, Miami ran into a wall on Saturday when their lethal offense was held to just seven points in a 26-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the opening round of the playoffs.
Following the Dolphins’ loss, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe went on the “Nightcap” show and shared some of his thoughts on what might be holding Miami back (via Nightcap on Twitter).
“Honestly, you know I’m telling you the truth. Probably the weak link [for the Dolphins] is the quarterback.”

Miami’s current starting quarterback, of course, is Tua Tagovailoa, and against the Chiefs on Saturday, he went 20-of-39 for 199 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
For a guy who could potentially earn a gigantic payday in Tagovailoa, he came up short for the Dolphins this season when they needed him the most.
Overall, the Miami quarterback finished the 2023 campaign with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Those aren’t terrible numbers from Tagovailoa, but is there a quarterback who could perform better in the Dolphins’ offense?
To be fair, Saturday’s playoff game was played in frigid temperatures that, at times, felt like -30 degrees with the wind chill.
So, the conditions certainly weren’t ideal, but Tagovailoa left plenty to be desired on Saturday, and it could result in the Dolphins opting not to give him a lucrative extension this offseason.
