The NBA is constantly changing, adding and subtracting elements, styles of play, and ideas that have been held for decades.
Some of these changes are supported while others are criticized.
On his podcast The Old Man & The Three, JJ Redick said that the “traditional point guard” is a “dying breed.”
Redick said that Chris Paul was the last traditional PG and now teams’ plays are run by larger stars like LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Paolo Banchero, and others.
The traditional point guard is a dying breed.

Redick isn’t alone in his claim, as there are plenty of people who believe the league has transformed.
There was a time when the point guard was substantially smaller and more slight than other athletes on the floor.
But over the years, that has changed, according to Redick.
Today, the ball is handled by players who are stronger, bigger, and not similar to the point guards of the past.
Some fans would argue that Stephen Curry is a traditional point guard, and he has found tons of success.
But it’s hard to deny that the look and build of players in all positions have changed over the last generation.
However, is that really a bad thing?
Even if Redick is correct, the NBA has some of the best players and teams in history right now.
So the position of point guard may have been altered over the years but it has led to some explosive and historic careers.
Debates about this and many other NBA topics will continue long into the future.
But as long as the league continues to delight fans, they will be happy no matter how point guards, forwards, and other positions look.
