The Dallas Mavericks are looking to bolster their frontcourt.
They were reportedly keeping tabs on Pascal Siakam, but with the former All-Star heading to the Indiana Pacers, they will now have to pivot.
According to Mike Scotto, they’re now keeping tabs on Portland Trail Blazers veteran Jerami Grant, who’s expected to be one of the hottest names ahead of the trade deadline (via NBACentral):
“The Mavericks have kept tabs on Jerami Grant in Portland, league sources told HoopsHype. Perhaps Kyle Kuzma could be added to this list in the coming weeks. Rival executives point to some combination of Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, Grant Williams, and draft compensation as Dallas’ best chance of making a trade for a frontcourt upgrade,” read the report.

Grant signed a big contract in the offseason, and the Blazers might not have a lot of use for him, all things considered.
The Mavericks have been very good offensively this season but not so much on the other end of the floor, and a guy like Grant could help them in that regard.
He could provide length, grit, and size for their frontcourt and could even be a small-ball five in some all-shooters lineups.
Also, Grant is another guy who’s proven to be able to put up 20+ points on any given night in this league, which could come in handy when Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving inevitably have to miss some games.
The Mavericks have been better than expected, but they are still one piece away from being a top-tier team.
Grant, on his own, isn’t a superstar by any means, and committing a big chunk of your salary cap to just three players could be a recipe for disaster under the new CBA.
Then again, they have two of the most talented and dominant scorers this game has ever seen, so they need to make the most of every minor chance they have to make a splash.
