The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had much success in the 2023-24 NBA season after their heroics in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament.
Although the Lakers went undefeated in the IST, they have been in a slump ever since.
Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise that the Lakers are contacting other teams in the NBA for a potential trade ahead of the February 8 trade deadline.
Previously, the Lakers were reportedly interested in acquiring Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray, but a new player has become a target for the franchise.
The Purple and Gold are apparently interested in trading for Bruce Brown Jr. if the Toronto Raptors decide to move their newly acquired player from the Indiana Pacers, per Jovan Buha via The Athletic on Twitter.
“If the Raptors decide to move on from Bruce Brown Jr., the Lakers will have interest in acquiring him,” Buha reported.

Who else might Los Angeles be interested in ahead of the trade deadline?

Brown’s value in the eyes of most NBA franchises increased following his good supporting role during the Denver Nuggets’ 2023 NBA Championship run.
The veteran guard signed a two-year, $45 million contract with the Indiana Pacers in the offseason, with a team option in the second year of the deal.
Brown has made 34 appearances this season, where he has averaged 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
Considering his numbers aren’t that great to begin with, it will allow the Lakers to get him on a cheap deal with the Raptors if the latter organization decides to bid farewell to the 2023 NBA champion.
