The San Antonio Spurs have a lot of issues and won’t be championship contenders for at least several more years.

But there is no denying that rookie star Victor Wembanyama might be the sort of generational talent people expected when he was the first pick in the draft last summer.

Speaking with The Athletic, Wembanyama put the rest of the NBA on notice with one simple statement: “I can get so much better. ”

San Antonio is in the midst of a shockingly ugly 2023-24 season. But don’t blame Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs’ rookie sensation has adjusted in no time to the NBA game.

The scary part? He believes there are many more levels he can reach.https://t.co/aUu23FsygP pic.twitter.com/2Jy8jEYrdX

The Athletic noted that only two other Spurs rookies have ever recorded 100+ assists and 100+ blocks in their debut seasons: David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

Wembanyama has thrilled Spurs fans all season long with a strong average of 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game.

He has easily been the most consequential player on his team, although he hasn’t been able to power them to many wins.

As great and exciting as he has been already, most people agree that the French rookie has plenty of room for growth.

At just 20 years old, he has many years ahead of him in the league and has already shown growth when it comes to his offensive skills.

The idea of Wembanyama getting even better is definitely a scary one for the rest of the league.

He is already a massive defensive threat and if he continues to strengthen his skills, he will be unstoppable.

Wembanyama is obviously a very introspective young man and knows that he can demand more from himself.

Nearly everyone agrees with that sentiment.

Now, people are wondering what San Antonio’s front office will do to build a stronger team around their explosive rookie phenom.

Wembanyama says that he can get better, but can the rest of the roster improve too?
