January 22nd is a historic day in the NBA day.

On January 22nd, 2006, Kobe Bryant dropped 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, still the second-highest single-game total in league history.

Eighteen years later to the day, Joel Embiid made history for himself in the Philadelphia 76ers’ win over the San Antonio Spurs.

Embiid scored 70 points against the Spurs, a career-high that gained the attention of several of his counterparts, including LeBron James.

James was excited for Embiid, cheering for the “70 piece nugget,” in his words.

70 PIECE NUGGET!!!! @JoelEmbiid . CRAZY

Embiid has been one of the best players in the league over the past several years.

He won MVP last year, and while there is a lot of season left to be played, he is well on his way to achieving that again this year.

While a 70-point performance is rare, Embiid’s rate of scoring continues to be impressive.

He presents a matchup nightmare for any opponent on both sides of the floor, making him a tough person to defend.

The 76ers have the third-best record in the Eastern Conference and have an opportunity to contend for the title this season.

They’ll have a brutal battle with the other best teams in the conference, as the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks remain ahead of them.

Both teams have complete rosters that are filled with star players.

It will be interesting to see how Embiid and the 76ers compete with them and if they can make a deep run in the playoffs knowing the strength of their competition.
