The Brooklyn Nets could get a big reinforcement soon.

According to a report by Erik Slater (via Legion Hoops), the team will send PG/F Ben Simmons to their G-League affiliate to give him some practice reps ‘in the near future’ to get him back on the court.

Simmons has been out for quite a while.

He’s struggled with a lower back injury, the same one that kept him on the shelf for most of last season.

Simmons went through an offseason cycle of posting hype videos of gym runs and photos drenched in sweat after a workout.

But he was barely able to play at all this season and wasn’t much of an impactful player, even when healthy.

Then again, the Nets have no choice but to trust him and his ability to turn things around.

Simmons has low trade value with that big contract and long and well-documented history of character and coachability issues, not to mention how injury-prone he’s been throughout the course of his career.

Still, he’s young and has proven to have the potential to be one of the best and most versatile defensive players in the league, and his playmaking skills, court vision, and basketball IQ were always superior.

The former No.1 pick won’t have many more chances to prove his worth in the league if this trend continues, so he will have to bring his A-Game and make sure to stay on the court once he’s finally cleared to make his return.
