During the beginning of his NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, superstar forward Kevin Durant wasn’t one to say much when questioned by the media, as he liked to keep to himself even though he was clearly passionate about the game of basketball.
These days, things have changed with Durant as he can be as vocal as anyone in the league when it comes to specific topics, as he’s become quite opinionated since dealing with a lot of criticism for deciding to join the star-studded Golden State Warriors a few years back.
Along with sharing his opinion on the GOAT debate and a lot of other legacy topics, Durant was recently asked about his former Brooklyn Nets teammate Kyrie Irving.
Even though Durant’s stint with the Nets and Irving was a disaster from start to finish and something he likely regrets, he still thinks highly of his close friend and former teammate.
According to Grant Afseth of Sports Illustrated, Durant went so far as to say that he believes Irving is the most skilled basketball player in NBA history.
“I think he’s the most skilled ever to play the game. I think that there’s nothing he can’t do with a basketball,” Durant said, via Afseth and Hoop Central on Twitter.

This is a bold statement, to say the least, from the controversial forward, as he’s played against some players in the past who could be in the running for that distinction, like Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and future Hall of Famer LeBron James.
Regardless of other opinions on the topic, Durant believes what he believes, and Irving has shown him enough to convince him that there’s never been a more skilled player in the history of the NBA.
