The Golden State Warriors have failed to find success in the 2023-24 NBA season, and the decline in the form of their veteran stars is a key reason behind that.

Speaking of which, Klay Thompson is on a downward spiral and is no longer the star he once was.

While Thompson did average more than 20 points per game in the last two seasons, he has failed to do so in the 2023-24 season.

Moreover, his shooting efficiency has undoubtedly gone down.

Keeping that in mind, there may only be a very slim chance that the Warriors offer him a max contract in the summer of 2024.

While most NBA fans have accepted that Thompson is past his prime, the 33-year-old refuses to accept that as he still believes that he is a “high-money player” in the NBA, as revealed by Anthony Slater via NBACentral on Twitter.

“He still believes he’s a high-level wing as a shooter and scorer that can defend bigger guys… he still thinks he’s a high money player and should be valued like that,” Slater reported.

Klay Thompson still views himself as a ‘high-level wing,’ per @anthonyVslater

There is no doubt that there was a time when Thompson was a high-value wing player who was an excellent shooter.

But ever since returning from back-to-back possible career-ending injuries that kept him away from the game of basketball for two seasons, Thompson has lost a step or two in his game.

In the 2023-24 NBA season, Thompson is averaging 17.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Warriors.

He is also shooting 42.3% from the field and 38.7% from the three-point line, which are below-average numbers by his standards.

It’s no coincidence that the Dubs are currently the 12th seed in the Western Conference with a 19-23 record this season.

After all, one of their best players of the past decade is not playing at the highest level.
