The Atlanta Falcons have a new head coach for 2024 in former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
This will – technically – be Morris’ third head coaching gig after he led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for three seasons and was the interim coach for the Falcons in 2020.
But as recently as 2022, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on ” The Pivot” podcast that Morris is one of the best coaches who still didn’t have a head coaching job despite his resume.
“Raheem Morris is the best coach that I know and have been around that don’t have a head job,” Tomlin said. “I don’t have a problem saying it, and I have never had a problem saying it. I’ve been saying it.”

Morris was tabbed to take over the Buccaneers in 2009 after Jon Gruden was fired, but only had one winning season in three years at the helm.
He worked his way back up to defensive coordinator with the Falcons in 2020 after time with Washington as a defensive backs coach and then in various roles in Atlanta before he took over as interim head coach in 2020 following the hiring of Dan Quinn.
Morris didn’t retain that job, though, which makes his return to the Falcons even stranger after he spent the past three seasons as the Rams defensive coordinator.
Now, he’ll take over a much better squad than the one he left three years ago with Drake London at wide receiver, Bijan Robinson at running back, and Kyle Pitts at tight end.
He just needs a quarterback, now, and could find one either in the draft, free agency, or via trade this offseason.
