The NBA has come a long way since the good old days.

There’s no doubt that some players are more skilled today, but there are also several factors that contribute to modern-day’s inflated boxscore.

The rules have changed; there’s a tendency to take more three-pointers than before, and, to be honest, there’s absolutely little defense played.

That’s why Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce took to Twitter to claim how much he misses defense in the NBA.

Damn I miss Defense in the NBA

This was in response to Luka Doncic putting up 73 points on 25-of-33 shooting against the Atlanta Hawks.

Luka had one of the single greatest performances in NBA history, as he also grabbed ten rebounds, handed out seven assists, and got the win.

It’s all hypotheticals and wishful thinking, but it’s impossible not to wonder how many points legendary scorers would’ve put up in today’s game with these rules and this lack of defense.

Luka is an old-school guy in the sense that he’s going to go at you the second he smells weakness, just like Larry Bird or some legendary scorers.

Putting Bird, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, or even Kobe Bryant in this era would be a nice experiment.

For now, all we can do is give Luka his flowers for his majestic performance, defense or not.
