Jalen Brunson has been a dominant force in the Eastern Conference since joining the New York Knicks at the beginning of last season.

When he came to New York, some people questioned if he had what it took to lead a team and the definitive answer is a resounding yes.

Brunson’s Knicks have been explosive lately and it’s drawing even more attention to him and his skills.

On Tuesday’s “First Take,” Kendrick Perkins heaped high praise on Brunson.

“Jalen Brunson should be in the MVP conversation,” Perkins plainly stated.

Looking at Brunson’s numbers, it’s hard to argue with Perkins.

The guard is posting 26.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists, all of which are higher than last season.

He is doing markedly better than he did during his time with the Dallas Mavericks and has helped push his team into playoff contention yet again.

The Knicks are fighting hard in a very competitive conference and are currently the fourth-best team in the East with a 30-17 record.

They have now won seven games in a row and Brunson has averaged 32 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.7 assists during that time.

There are other factors at work with the recent Knicks surge but Brunson is at the center of it all.

Like true MVP candidates, he is a central piece of every possession and runs the team’s tempo and energy.

The Knicks are about to start a six-game homestand, playing against the Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, and Pacers again.

How long can they keep this current win streak going?

If the Knicks keep winning, will more people join Perkins and talk about Brunson as an MVP contender?
