It’s official: the two greatest three-point shooters in basketball are going head-to-head next month.

Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu will battle each other in a three-point contest at next month’s NBA All-Star Weekend.

The NBA released the announcement on Tuesday while also revealing the rules for the competition.

Each player will be given four ball racks with four game balls and one “money” ball, with a fifth “all money ball” rack.

The location for that fifth rack will be decided by Curry and Ionescu.

Additionally, there will be two “Starry Range” shots, which will be worth three points, while the money balls are worth two, and game balls are worth one point.

It’s all a bit confusing but the bottom line is that Curry and Ionescu, two supremely talented three-point artists, are going to give basketball fans something really fun to watch.

This face-off has been in the works for months now.

During the summer, Ionescu suggested having a shootout with Curry, the NBA’s all-time three-point leader.

Ionescu won the 2023 WNBA three-point contest, sinking 25 of her 27 attempts with 37 points, the most in WNBA or NBA history.

Last week, Curry was caught on a live microphone talking about the possibility of playing against Ionescu during an All-Star Weekend event.

The NBA is hard at work making sure that this year’s All-Star events are very memorable.

The All-Star Game was met with a tepid response last year and many fans were pleading with the league to make alterations to inject more energy and enthusiasm.

This is just one of a few ideas that the NBA thinks will get people excited about this annual event.
