Hot takes are a part of the media game now, especially when it comes to talking heads on major networks like ESPN and FS1, as hot takes have to be given daily in order to get ratings.

The king of hot takes these days is none other than ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who always tends to come up with topics or angles to topics that can stir the pot and drive fans crazy.

On Tuesday, Smith was at it again while on ESPN’s “First Take,” talking to Kendrick Perkins and Shannon Sharpe about the top-five duos in sports history, which means these three had not much else to talk about.

At the top of Smith’s list is probably the duo at the top of many lists, as he went with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, formerly of the Chicago Bulls, followed by iconic Los Angeles Lakers duo Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

It’s difficult to argue with the top-two duos on Smith’s list, as they were incredibly dominant and resulted in a total of nine championship rings while together.

However, Smith’s list then gets a bit interesting as he goes with the WNBA duo of Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes, which is not a duo even expected on this list, let alone at No. 3.

Smith then mentioned Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at No. 4 and finishes things out with the dynamic NHL duo of Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.

It’s a pretty solid list, but there are definitely some talking points in there.
