Before making his return to the basketball floor for the Brooklyn Nets recently against the Utah Jazz, veteran point guard Ben Simmons had played in only six games during the 2023-24 NBA regular season.
Although Simmons played really well during that six-game stretch, the veteran started dealing with injury issues once again, which was another unfortunate turn for his career and a costly loss for the Nets because he was playing well and starting to look like the star player of old with the Philadelphia 76ers.
During the game against the Jazz, Simmons went a perfect five-for-five from the field for 10 points, dished out 11 assists, and grabbed eight rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.
Unfortunately, Simmons suffered a knee injury in the win over the Jazz and now will miss tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Ben Simmons is out for Nets-Suns tonight due to left knee contusion. He returned on Monday after two-month absence, posting 10 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds vs. Utah. Simmons developed swelling in knee from a hit during game, sources say, but tests showed no further issue.

Even though Simmons has been productive when on the floor for the Nets this season, he’s played in only seven games and clearly can’t stay healthy at this point in his career, which makes it impossible for the team to depend on him and sparks reactions like these.
He really just needs to retire. I’ve never played in the NBA and have been more available than he has his entire career.

At this point, the Nets can only hope that he eventually gets healthy and is able to stay that way in order to contribute to this team on a weekly basis.
If Simmons can stay healthy and continue to produce at a high level, the Nets might have a shot to become relevant in the Eastern Conference moving forward, but that doesn’t seem likely.
