After an embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Hawks, the Los Angeles Lakers face even more pressure to improve the roster at the NBA’s annual trade deadline.
The Lakers have been widely reported as one of the most active teams, though a deal doesn’t seem like it’s on the horizon.
Los Angeles has limited draft capital and young players to offer up in a deal, complicating their desire to add talent.
Hawks’ star Dejounte Murray has been the most heavily linked player to the Lakers, though trade talks between the two teams have reportedly stalled out.
L.A. could still go in other directions to make a minor upgrade, though they’ll be facing stiff competition from other buyers
With the deadline quickly approaching, Adrian Wojnarowski warned Lakers fans not to get their hopes up via ESPN.
“The Lakers have been active… I think Laker fans and players and the organization probably have to temper their expectations on this trade deadline… Their best bet might be to wait… There are so few difference makers available,” Wojnarowski said.

As of now, Los Angeles’ best trade assets are it’s 2029 first-round pick, Austin Reaves, first-round pick swaps, and Jalen Hood-Schifino.
Compared to other teams, the Lakers lack enough attractive pieces to get a deal done for a high-impact player.
LeBron James has proven that the team is worth investing in because of his play this season, but a seller’s market is making it difficult for the front office to find a trade worth pulling the trigger on.
For now, it’ll be interesting to see what the Lakers do in the next week.
