Kevin Durant returned to Barclays Center on Wednesday night for the first time since leaving the Brooklyn Nets last season.

There was a lot of speculation about how he would be received and what the Nets would do to honor or ignore him.

It turns out that the Nets created a tribute video for Durant, which they played right before tip-off.

Although Durant had publicly pleaded with Brooklyn to not make a video, he was very honored by it, according to a video shared by ClutchPoints.

Durant said: “There’s classy people here. They appreciate everybody who donned the jersey… And that shows a great organization when you can appreciate everybody who stepped in and put the blood, sweat, and tears to your organization so I respect that.”

Durant recently told fans on Twitter that he didn’t want a tribute video played in his honor before the game but the Nets clearly didn’t listen.

It makes sense that the Nets produced the video because Durant will forever be an important part of team history.

During his time with Brooklyn, Durant averaged 29 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.8 assists.

Hopes were very high when he and Kyrie Irving joined the Nets and they were immediately one of the most-watched teams in the league.

Sadly, they repeatedly fell short of their big goals, and roster and coaching changes plagued them again and again but Durant put the team back on the map, returning them to prominence and bringing them close to reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021.

Of course, things didn’t end on the best terms, with Durant and Irving leaving around the same time and dashing the team’s hopes.

Still, many people respect what Durant did for the team no matter how it all came to an end.

On Wednesday night, he scored 33 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists as his new team beat his old one.
