Baker Mayfield’s NFL career has been something of a whirlwind.
He was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, a highly-touted collegiate prospect.
Despite his high valuation, even a player of Mayfield’s caliber wasn’t enough to help turn around the Cleveland Browns.
After a few years, Mayfield was traded to the Carolina Panthers and was later acquired by the Los Angeles Rams in the same season.
It didn’t work out at those two destinations either, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers still took a chance on him in the 2023 offseason.
Mayfield might have found his true home, as he seemed to overcome significant woes to lead the Buccaneers to the playoffs.
Now, Mayfield might just become the Buccaneers’ new franchise quarterback.
A recent report from Tony Pauline via Dov Kleiman indicates that Mayfield could make at least $40 million per year from a new contract extension.

Not a bad gig for someone who was believed to be on his way out of the league before the 2023 campaign.
While this contract is just a rumor at this point, signs do seem to point to this team retaining Mayfield for the foreseeable future.
He has won over the locker room and fanbase, two critical things for any quarterback.
Despite everything Mayfield has going for him, he will still need to make sure this decision makes sense.
Dave Canales has recently left to take a head coaching job, which leaves a hole for the Buccaneers as their offensive coordinator.
Mayfield’s future with the team could hinge on their selection of a new OC.
