When Patrick Beverley came to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022, some fans were excited to see him bring his special brand of offense and his relentless style of defense to the team.

In the end, the Lakers didn’t work as people had wanted and Beverley ended up only playing in 45 games with them.

Since then, he has played for the Chicago Bulls and now the Philadelphia 76ers.

Speaking on his podcast, via NBACentral, Beverley talked about his time with the Lakers and how he feels he was a scapegoat for them.

“When I left, they blamed me; they blamed Russ. We’re on some of the best teams in the NBA,” Beverley said.

During his time with the Lakers, Beverley posted an average of just 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

That was a noticeable drop-down from his season before with the Minnesota Timberwolves and was seen as an obvious disappointment.

For a number of reasons, he just didn’t fit with the Lakers and the team didn’t think twice about getting rid of him.

Westbrook was also not the right fit for the Lakers, despite him trying his hardest and head coach Darvin Ham adjusting his role within the team.

Since then, Westbrook has moved to the Los Angeles Clippers, one of the best teams in the West.

Beverley is right when he notes that both he and Westbrook are now playing for more accomplished teams that are doing quite well.

However, that doesn’t negate the fact that both of these stars didn’t do well with the Lakers, despite their talent.

Beverley and Westbrook weren’t the only problems with the Lakers, clearly, as they are still struggling even though Beverley and Westbrook were cut loose long ago.

Looking back, it’s very obvious that the inclusion of these two players just didn’t work out.
