The Jim Harbaugh era of the Los Angeles Chargers is officially underway, with the team introducing him to the Los Angeles media earlier this week.
Along with the team officially introducing him to his new city, Harbaugh has been doing the rounds with a number of interviews with the local and national media to talk about what’s ahead for the Chargers franchise.
On Friday, Harbaugh made an appearance on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” and mentioned his former University of Michigan quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, who will make his jump to the professional level in a few months during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Even though the consensus right now is that Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are the three best quarterbacks in the draft and will likely be taken in that order, Harbaugh made a bold prediction about his former Wolverines quarterback on Friday’s show.
“Don’t be surprised if/when he’s the number one quarterback off the board,” Harbaugh said of McCarthy. “That’s my prediction right now.”

Here are some reactions to Harbaugh’s prediction that McCarthy will be the first quarterback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft:

They’re trading Herbert for the number 1 pick & taking JJ

Say it with your chest Jim, trade Herbert for the 1st pick.
Outside of that, it’s all .

Clearly, Harbaugh is being kind to his former quarterback here, as there’s likely no way McCarthy is getting taken ahead of the three NFL-ready quarterbacks mentioned above.
Williams is considered a generational quarterback and a franchise player right out of the gate, while Maye and Daniels have a chance to be starters right away.
At this point, McCarthy will be lucky to get picked in the first round, let alone go No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears.
