After parting ways with former longtime head coach Pete Carroll, the Seattle Seahawks hired Mike Macdonald to succeed Carroll on Thursday.

Macdonald previously spent several years with the Baltimore Ravens in several capacities under John Harbaugh, and he is now starting to fill out his staff.

His assistant head coach, per Tom Pelissero, will be Leslie Frazier, who has a history with Macdonald.

Frazier was once a head coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2010 to 2013, and his high-water mark was a 10-6 record and a playoff appearance during the 2012 season.

Before that, he had been an assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, and the Vikings, and he had stints as an assistant with the Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Buffalo Bills after the Vikings fired him in late 2013.

Frazier, 64, started out his football career as a defensive back for the Chicago Bears in the 1980s, and he was a starting cornerback on that historic 1985 team that won the Super Bowl championship and boasted arguably the greatest defense in NFL history.

The Seahawks may not have made the playoffs this season, but they do have some nice pieces for Macdonald and Frazier to build around, including wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and rookie Pro Bowl cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

They do have a question mark at quarterback, as Geno Smith fell back to earth after his feel-good 2022 season, and now there are whispers the Seahawks could decide to move on from him before the 2024 campaign kicks off this September.
