The San Francisco 49ers are in the Super Bowl thanks to quarterback Brock Purdy after he led his team back to a win in the past two postseason games against the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
But even in victory, there were still concerns about how Purdy performed relative to the expectations of the offense, and veteran NFL analyst Greg Cosell doesn’t think Purdy did as much as he could in the 49ers’ offense.
“I didn’t think Purdy played that well,” Cosell said. “He ended up making a lot of critical plays with his legs and I think that was unexpected as well. …. But he missed a lot of things. And when I say missed, he didn’t turn the ball loose within the context of their timing and rhythm. And I guarantee Kyle Shanahan was not thrilled with that.”

Purdy is only in his second season in the NFL but has already taken the 49ers to consecutive NFC title games and now the Super Bowl.
Therefore, he still has a lot of development left in his game before he can be considered a truly elite quarterback; but even in a short amount of time, he’s proven himself a good enough player to lead his team to the Super Bowl.
The issues seem to be that the 49ers should be even better offensively considering the amount of talent on the team with Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle.
While Purdy looks good under center, Cosell doesn’t believe he’s elevated the team to where they could win a championship.
We’ll see next Sunday.
