The Kansas City Chiefs went through a lot this season.
They got off to a bad start to the campaign by losing their home opener, especially with all the uncertainty around Chris Jones and Eric Bieniemy not being around.
The team was up and down and struggled to be at their best for most of the campaign, with pundits and fans thinking they didn’t stand a chance to repeat as champions.
Notably, it seemed like they reached their lowest point in that loss to the Buffalo Bills, with Patrick Mahomes ripping the referees over an offsides call on Kadarius Toney that cost them the game.
Unsurprisingly, when asked about his most frustrating moment of the season, the two-time Super Bowl champion pointed out that game (via Jeff Darlington):
“I mean, I think obviously the Buffalo game. And I don’t even think it was because of the one play. It’s just… we had been playing such close games. And that was a game I knew was gonna be important, which it obviously was,” he said.
After a season of highs and lows, I asked Patrick Mahomes for his most frustrated moment. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mahomes pointed to the infamous penalty that he recognizes was “the right flag.”

Mahomes finally admitted that the referees were right to throw that flag, but he also admitted that his anger went far beyond that, as the players were just trying to get the job done yet things simply didn’t go their way.
This was, by far, the toughest season in Mahomes’ career.
Regardless of his usual stellar play, the Chiefs’ lack of talent at the wide receiver position constantly set them back, and people finally started questioning him.
Fast forward to today, and the Chiefs are back in the big game for the fourth time in Mahomes’ six seasons as a starter, which is pretty much unprecedented.
Now, it’s all about finishing the job and making those struggles look like nothing but a distant memory in the past.
