The San Francisco Giants have been lurking for the entire offseason, flirting with top players and actually signing a couple.
So far, their biggest acquisition has been center fielder Jung-Hoo Lee, but they also signed pitcher Jordan Hicks for their rotation.
Still, as a team who heavily pursued Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa, Shohei Ohtani, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the last two offseasons, they have plenty of cash ready to spend.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman via B/R Walk-Off, they have set their sights on a former Platinum Glover in the infield.

The Giants have been talking to Matt Chapman and it makes sense, per Heyman.
“They have the money, as a big-market team, and their revenue is going up as the A’s are giving up on the Bay Area,” he stated.
The Giants need to make a splash on offense, and while Chapman is not exactly the most consistent hitter around, he does offer the potential to hit more than 30 home runs and play elite defense at third base.
He is probably asking for a lot of money, which is probably why he hasn’t signed yet despite much interest around the league.
After a blistering start to the 2023 campaign, he cooled off considerably and finished with a rather disappointing .240/.330/.424 line with a .755 OPS.
He “only” hit 17 home runs in 140 games, but he also smacked 39 doubles and remains a player with considerable power.
San Francisco doesn’t have a ballpark that favors hitters, but they have the money to convince Chapman to move to the Bay Area.
