The Dallas Cowboys continue their pursuit of a new defensive coordinator.

Needless to say, Dan Quinn left some big shoes to fill, and Jerry Jones will leave no stone unturned to find the perfect replacement.

With that in mind, he reportedly reached out to former head coach Rex Ryan, according to a report by Josina Anderson.

All things considered, this is far from a surprise.

Ryan didn’t find much success as the main guy, but he’s one of the most experienced defensive-minded coaches in the game.

Now serving as an analyst for ESPN, Ryan’s name hasn’t been brought up often in head coach hiring cycles, perhaps for his hot takes and the not-so-subtle way he’s addressed multiple subjects or how he’s talked about some players and coaches.

Whatever the case, he could be just the guy the Cowboys need right now.

As good a job as Quinn did, his team struggled mightily against the run every single year, and that was evident when they faced Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers in that heartbreaking loss in the wild-card round.

On top of that, Ryan’s gonna tell it like it is and will hold every single player accountable when they’re not doing their job, which should also be a point of emphasis in Arlington.

The Cowboys have too much talent on defense, starting with DE/LB Micah Parsons.

Now, it’s time they finally take a leap forward and start delivering and performing to their expected level when it matters the most.
