The Los Angeles Lakers are a team that will always be in “win-now” mode.
At least that will be the case while they have LeBron James leading their team.
With that being said, any star player that may become available with pique the Lakers’ interest.
It is looking likely the Lakers will be unable to acquire a star before the trade deadline on Thursday.
But, they could be looking to acquire one during the offseason
One player who could be available on the trade market is Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell.
He has been one of the best players in the league since joining Cleveland.
But, the Cavs may be looking for a change.
According to Bill Reiter, via NBACentral, the Lakers are “optimistic” about their chances of acquiring Mitchell this summer.

Acquiring Mitchell will not be easy.
He should demand a strong trade package in return.
But, the Lakers should be willing to part ways with anyone on their roster not named James or Anthony Davis.
If the Lakers are serious about contending for another title this is the type of move they need to make.
It does not look like the Lakers are a serious threat this year.
They are currently in ninth place in the West and lack the upside of the top teams.
Nevertheless, the Lakers front office will always do what they can to help the team compete for a title.
James may only have a few more years left in the NBA.
It would be a disservice to him if they did not go all-in.
