The upcoming NFL Draft is another quarterback-heavy class.
However, there’s a big debate about what happens once Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye are off the board, as there are some interesting prospects, yet there’s a big drop-off in talent.
With that in mind, NFL insider Benjamin Allbright reports that decision-makers around the league are actually higher on J.J. McCarthy than on both Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr., contrary to what the fans and media believe.
Per Allbright, McCarthy could climb all his way up to the top-10, whereas it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Nix and Penix fall all the way to the latter rounds, even on day three.
League is definitely higher on McCarthy (top 10) and lower on Nix/Penix (day2/3) than media/fans according to the people I talk to.

Most scouts have shown concerns about Nix’s development, as he’s a well-seasoned veteran already and seems to be pretty much a finished product at this point in his career.
As for Penix, he was quite impressive last season as a Heisman trophy finalist, but he’s also on the older side and has had a long history of multiple season-ending injuries.
At first glance, some might think and argue that McCarthy has a lower ceiling than the aforementioned colleagues, but he’s still raw and can be developed.
Then again, with multiple QB-needy teams looking to find guys for the future in this upcoming edition of the Draft, chances are that just the top three selections will get a chance to play right out of the gate, with the others needing more time on the sidelines to get ready.
