Miami Dolphins fans were on the verge of witnessing history this season.
Tyreek Hill was close to having the greatest season by a wide receiver in history by becoming the first-ever player to log 2,000+ receiving yards.
He was well on pace to do so in just 16 games, too, so it’s not like he would’ve needed the additional game to make history.
Unfortunately, injuries derailed his incredible campaign late in the season, so he fell short with “just” 1,799.
That’s still remarkable, especially for a player his size.
Recently, talking to SiriusXM NFL Radio, the former Kansas City Chiefs star explained his motivation to pursue that 2,000-yard record.
Beyond the obvious motivation to enter the record books and whatnot, he stated that he wants to do it to break the stigma for short wide receivers and inspire other short players so they know they can also make history.
“That’s why I want 2K, so I can set the standard for all the short kings in the world,” he said.

Hill is just 5-foot-10, which is quite short for a wide receiver.
The average NFL WR is slightly taller than 6-foot, and there has always been a narrative around smaller wideouts not being good, strong, or physical enough to withstand the burden of an NFL game.
Hill has established himself as the best receiver in the game for years now, proving that metrics and measurables don’t tell the whole story.
Hopefully, he’ll be able to stay healthy next season, as the Dolphins’ explosive offense will most definitely put him in a position to make history and prove all those who slept on him wrong.
