The Kansas City Chiefs had one of the best defenses in the NFL this year, a big reason they were able to win the Super Bowl.
Many playmakers on this defense helped get them to this point, one of the most impactful being Chris Jones.
While Jones is great on the field, he and the Chiefs’ front office have dueled over the past few years.
His contract extensions have been met with consternation, and while he has ultimately gotten deals done, it was tough to get them in place.
He is up for another extension this offseason, and it’s hard to say that he’s not worthy of a big contract, some have wondered if the juice is worth the squeeze.
Colin Cowherd recently talked about this in a recent segment of The Volume, where he said, “He’d be a hard move for me. I feel like he’s the soul of that defense.”

If the Chiefs did move on from Jones, they would lose a player who has been in the heart of the Defensive Player of the Year race.
Cowherd believes he is a major piece of that defense, and it might be tough for the Chiefs to replace his level of production with just one player.
It will be interesting to see what moves the Chiefs make in the offseason, and what free agents they are willing to let walk.
They are attempting to make history in 2024, where they have an opportunity to win three straight championships for the first time in NFL history.
