Baker Mayfield finally put things together this season and tapped into the potential many always felt he had.

He was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time, and he led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the playoffs, where they destroyed the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, 32-9, in the Wild Card round.

He will be a free agent this offseason, and just about everyone expects the Buccaneers to re-sign him.

Per Jonathan Jones via Dov Kleiman, Mayfield is set to become a very rich man — he could earn a minimum of $75 million over three years on his next contract.

When Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft, many felt he had the ability and potential to become one of the league’s greats.

However, he only displayed scattered moments of excellence during his first five seasons, and the Cleveland Browns, his first pro team, traded him prior to the 2022 season.

Mayfield played for both the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams that season, but he showed no improvement.

This year, however, he threw for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns, and in the playoff victory over Philly, he went 22 of 36 for 337 yards, three touchdown passes, and no interceptions.

Assuming he remains in Tampa Bay, he will have a team around him that can continue to be competitive, but one thing complicating the situation moving forward is the fact that star wide receiver Mike Evans will also be a free agent.

Keeping both Mayfield and Evans is integral to Tampa Bay’s chances of winning the NFC South again next season.
