With it being the final game of the season, the Super Bowl typically features a number of players who decide to play through an injury since they know they’ll have the whole offseason to recover.
This was the case with Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Nick Allegretti, who played most of the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers last weekend with a torn UCL in his arm.
In a recent appearance on “The Jim Rome Show”, Allegretti recently shared how he was able to play through his injury (via Jim Rome on Twitter).
“It was one of those things that I could confidently use the arm knowing that most likely the UCL was already gone, so I wasn’t going to tear it any worse. So if I could deal with the pain, I could play.”

Allegretti is typically a backup offensive lineman for the Chiefs, but he was inserted into the starting lineup for the Super Bowl after Kansas City’s starting left guard, Joe Thuney, suffered a pectoral injury during the team’s divisional round playoff win over the Buffalo Bills.
If Allegretti was unable to play through his injury, the Chiefs likely would have had to turn to a third-string offensive lineman to go up against a 49ers defensive line that was one of the best in the NFL in 2023.
Luckily for Kansas City, he was able to power through the UCL injury, and now he’ll always have a story to tell about how he helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl despite having a significant arm injury.
Kansas City is definitely thankful for the efforts of Allegretti last weekend, as they will now have the opportunity in 2024 to become the first franchise in NFL history to win a Super Bowl in three straight seasons.
