The Los Angeles Lakers are doing everything in their power to retain LeBron James.
Notably, that might require them to do what most NBA analysts — and James himself — have been urging them to do, which is getting him more help.
Needless to say, that has led to plenty of mockery and criticism on social media, as there has always been a narrative about James, of all superstars, being the one who always seems to need more help to get the job done.
James has his fair share of detractors, and it might be fair to some degree, but objectively speaking, there’s no way to criticize his game.
That’s why even the great Larry Bird had to go on record to defend his colleague, calling out his critics (via NBA TV and Legion Hoops).
“I tell everybody quit whining about LeBron, he’s unbelievable. He’s one of the greatest if not the greatest ever,” Bird said.

That’s the ultimate compliment, coming from the undisputed greatest small forward of all time before LeBron’s surge, especially considering he used to play against the likes of Michael Jordan himself.
LeBron is objectively one of the best and most durable players — if not athletes — to ever do it.
