NBA All-Star Weekend is done and dusted, with teams getting ready to compete in the regular season once again.

For years, interest in the NBA All-Star Game has slowly but surely declined.

A crucial reason behind the downfall of the event is none other than the league’s consistent failure to improve the level of competition.

After all, fans are simply bored of seeing the lack of competitiveness in the game as compared to the regular season or the playoffs.

Despite that, the 2024 NBA All-Star Game seemingly did well for the league as the NBA saw a 20% viewership increase over last year, as revealed via NBA Communications on Twitter.

11.6 million unique viewers watched the 2024 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday across TNT, TBS, truTV and B/R Sports on Max, up 20% vs. last year. The game averaged 5.5 million viewers, up 14% vs. last year. pic.twitter.com/AM6i5uq9aZ

To be precise, the NBA All-Star Game clocked in at 11.6 million unique viewers.

It’s great to see the audience’s interest returning in the decorated event, but the level of the NBA All-Star Game remained low this year as well.

Fans saw little to no defense being played throughout the matchup as players from both teams chucked up as many shots as possible to score.

One thing the league can do is work across the board to improve NBA All-Star Weekend.

The inclusion of Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu’s three-point contest was a breath of fresh air for the audience.

Hopefully, the league continues to improve the event and fans’ interest will return sooner rather than later.
