After what was thought to be a down regular season, which resulted in another AFC West division title, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs headed into the NFL playoffs as a team that many believed couldn’t contend with the best of the best in the conference.
Obviously, that wasn’t the case, with Patrick Mahomes and company wiping the floor with the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens on their way to another Super Bowl appearance against the San Francisco 49ers.
Although the 49ers gave Andy Reid’s squad all they could handle by taking them into overtime, Kansas City ultimately prevailed and won a second straight Super Bowl title, which is something that hadn’t been done in two decades.
With the Chiefs being defending champions once again, speculation has begun about which team in the league will be able to take down Mahomes’ squad next season, with Nick Wright of FOX Sports coming up with a bold take on “First Things First.”
“I don’t think it’s the [Cincinnati] Bengals,” Wright said. “I think it’s a team that can follow that blueprint, which is consistency at the coach and coordinator spot, superstar quarterback, has drafted really well, and can overspend in this free-agency period because they have the quarterback so cheap, and that’s the Houston Texans.”

The Texans were the surprise team in the NFL during the 2023 campaign, with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud being a star right out of the gate for Houston, while DeMeco Ryans turned out to be the right coach for the team.
Although this might be a stretch, Wright also might be on to something, as Houston has a window of opportunity and could make some moves during the offseason.
