The Boston Celtics have a true foundational piece in Jayson Tatum.

Tatum has been posting MVP-caliber numbers for years now, and while he hasn’t gotten the nod yet, this might be the year he finally earns that distinction.

However, as good as he’s been, he’s failed to lead the team to the ultimate goal.

Notably, NBA analyst Jason Timpf seems to think that it might have to do with the fact that his offense consists mostly of jump shots.

Talking on The Volume, he made a case for Tatum changing his game and not settling for that many jumpers.

“More than half of his game is jump shooting. I’m saying he needs to change,” Timpf said.

Truth be told, that’s a bit of a hot take, as Tatum is an efficient three-level scorer, and his offensive game has evolved throughout the course of the years.

Also, he made it to the NBA Finals just a couple of years ago, so it’s not like it hasn’t worked out for him.

Even so, we can understand where he’s coming from in the sense that perhaps Tatum should use his athleticism more often and become a more aggressive driver, perhaps taking a page out of James Harden’s book to get to the line more often.

Whatever the case, Tatum is still young and is an ever-evolving product even despite all his years of experience in the league, and he’ll have to adapt and adjust his game once he gets a little older just like most stars do.
